San Diego Fish Reports San Diego / Point Loma- Fishing Charters San Diego - Fish Counts

Local Inshore: The half-day boats have been fishing the mid column off the kelp for sculpin and calico bass, and the flats for sand bass and halibut with mixed success. The closure on rockfishing and the weather put a dent in the fish counts and boats on the water, but news of some local yellowtail action kept the boats running. The sand bass are biting and are being found in 50-80 feet of water with some structure among the flats outside of Point Loma and Imperial Beach. The best lure for them is generally a large 6” to 8”plastic grub or swimbait in bright colors (orange/white and rootbeer/gold flake) on a 1- to 1.5 oz-leadhead. Add a squid strip to provide a little scent and up the action.

There have been a few marlin released off the backside of

Anacapa over the last few days.

The eastern side of the Kidney Bank and 175 area had the

best life yesterday, and there were indeed a few marlin

caught and released here for the weekend tournaments.

1 marlin off the Slide over the weekend.

1 marlin ran over on the North 9 Mile Bank on Sunday.

2 marlin seen while fishing tuna at the 43 on Saturday.
